September Spotlight: Kybella
Kybella is a treatment that permanently destroys fat cells with deoxycholic acid, which is secreted by your gallbladder to digest fat in your diet. Kybella is only approved for treating submental fat, i.e., the “double chin.”
A chemical reaction within the fat cells permanently destroys them and the body removes the liquefied cells. Kybella is injected in evenly spaced intervals over the area giving more control and specificity to the procedure than with cryolipolysis aka Cool Sculpt.
Some of the many advantages of Kybella are

- mild discomfort for 2-3 days
- no need for special garments like chin compression wraps
The results of Kybella are permanent. Kybella does require at least 2, perhaps up to 4 treatments, dependent on the amount of fat to be removed. Improvements can be seen as soon as two weeks post-treatment. The time between additional treatments is 4 to 6 weeks.
Double chins are often associated with retrognathia (a receding chin). Once the fat is gone the addition of Filler in the chin and jawline can sharpen the look.
